Each year the Institute convenes an annual statewide meeting which is organized to promote a dialogue among citizens and policy leaders about critical issues facing the state and the ways in which Floridians can respond to them. About 175 Floridians from all walks of life gather at the University of Florida in the early spring to discuss a specific topic and recommend ways in which that topic may be addressed. Because of its importance to the well being of Florida and the state's ability to come together to find solutions to critical issues, the first annual meeting addressed the topic of community building. Subsequent meetings have discussed the future of state government, Florida and the global economy, demographic developments and their impact on Florida's future, aging, children and democracy and the economy in Florida in a time of national crisis.

In addition to the annual meetings the Institute has co-hosted several local meetings. Two of these meetings have been held in Marion County in partnership with Central Florida Community College. The third, in Jacksonville, was co-hosted by Mayor John Delaney. Future local meetings are planned in other areas of the state.

After each annual statewide institute and local institute the Askew Institute produces a report which provides a synopsis of the readings and presentations for the meeting, a summary of the participants discussions and the recommendations which were developed. Copies of these reports may be obtained online or ordered through the Askew Institute office.
