The Reubin O'D. Askew Institute

The Reubin O'D. Askew Institute seeks to assist Florida’s citizens and communities in examining the critical issues facing our state and nation and in assessing ways to address these issues. The programs of the Institute are designed to deepen and broaden the thinking of participants and policy leaders and to aid them in making decisions that will enhance the future of our state.

Since 2009, the Institute has focused on assisting Florida’s cities in re-examining developments that led to the Great Recession and laying plans to help them develop stronger and more diverse economies in the future. The Institute launched this initiative with a PBS production entitled “Florida and the Great Recession.” That program was televised on PBS stations throughout Florida and copies of it are available for schools, cities, and civic organizations in the state by contacting the Askew Institute.

The Institute also provides programs for individual cities on ways to build a stronger future for Florida and Floridians. City leaders, non-governmental agencies, and chambers of commerce can arrange for such programs by simply contacting the Institute at this site.
